Provides prevention, education, and treatment services for youth and families where substance use is a concern, or where someone is affected by the substance use of another.
Services include assessment, individual and family counselling, case management, and referral to specialized treatment resources. Prevention activities include harm reduction, public awareness, and community education about substance abuse issues.
Child and Youth Mental Health Services:
Includes assessment, counselling, and case planning for children and youth with depression, anxiety, family conflict, unmanageable behaviour, or other mental health concerns in the home, school or community. The service provides specialized clinical interventions and support and follow-up in the office or on an outreach basis.
The program is aimed at children and youth between the ages of 5 and 19 years of age residing in the Gulf Islands who present with moderate to severe emotional, behavioral and/or psychological difficulties.
Services for Pre-Natal, Infants and Toddlers:
Family Place is a resource and drop-in program centrally located in Ganges Salt Spring Island, offering a safe and well equipped indoor and outdoor play area, a variety of drop-in and scheduled programs and courses and a range of resources for parents and caregivers of children under six.
The center provides resources, information and parent education opportunities to support healthy and happy families. The facility offers a comfortable playroom, library, sitting area, kitchen, counselling offices, toy library and clothing exchange. The programs welcome all parents and caregivers of children aged 0 – 6 to enjoy the warm space and community resources at Family Place.
The Core Youth Centre (Youth Drop-In and Programming):
Provides a safe, welcoming and supportive space for youth in grades 6-12 at The Core a three story heritage building in the heart of Ganges close to schools. The space hosts recreation, computers, video games, internet access, a big screen TV, affordable and healthy food, as well as regularly scheduled programming.
Programming is led by a Youth Programs Coordinator for the Drop-In, including such activities as teen photography challenges, monthly and DIY meals, kitchen safety education, chess club, basketball contests, annual PRIDE parties and Comic-Cons, and more.
Children and Youth with Support Needs:
The program provides opportunities for children and youth aged 6 to 18 with diverse abilities to participate in activities that promote their development of life and social skills. Such activities aim to maintain or prompt a planned change in the behaviour, condition, and/or functioning of the participant, and create opportunities for them to participate in a range of recreation/leisure experiences, including but not limited to sports, arts, crafts, and outdoors.
Intake and Referral:
Intake / Navigator – Salt Spring Island: The Intake / Navigator provides intake, brief assessment and referral to services for adults. This is typically the first point of contact for individuals seeking information, counselling or other services.
Resources and Referral – Mayne and Galiano Islands: The Resource and Referral service provides crisis assessment and intervention, information about services, and referral to services for individuals from the communities of Galiano Island and Mayne Island.
Family Development Services:
Provided on an outreach basis to families where children are determined to be in an unhealthy or risky home environment. Services include early intervention, assessment, prevention, and other support activities for children and families experiencing stress, parenting challenges, or early signs of abuse, neglect or other risks to child well-being.
